Frankfurt Airport handled a total of 2,213,887 tonnes of freight and mail in 2018, a year-on-year decrease of 0.7%, according to full-year traffic figures released by Fraport AG.

Fraport said that the dip reflected growing uncertainties in global trade, particularly during the second half of the year.

Cargo throughput rose by 1.9% in December to 183.674 tonnes, while aircraft movements increased by 9.0% to 38,324 takeoffs and landings.

Xi’an Xianyang International Airport, in which Fraport holds a 24.5% stake, saw its total cargo throughout grow by 20.3% to 312,555 tonnes.

Fraport’s portfolio of subsidiaries and investments includes the operation of 26 airports on three continents.
