EVERGREEN PENS ORDER OF 23,000 TEU MEGASHIPS

Evergreen has signed newbuilding contracts with Chinese shipbuilders CSSC Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding and CSSC Jiangnan Shipyard, for the construction of four, 23,000 TEU containerships (two each yard) — the first mega-deal project following the official move to combine the two entities to become the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC).
 

The 23,000 TEU containerships are designed by Hudong-Zhonghua and will emphasis on being environment-friendly and efficient with energy-saving features.

 

The mega-ships will be the first of 10 planned 23,000 TEU containerships, which will be the largest in Evergreen's fleet and also among the largest in the world.

 

Earlier, Evergreen confirmed its plan to build ten 23,000 TEU containerships with the vessels to be built in three shipyards.

 

Six of these containerships will be built by South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries, while the four others will be constructed at China’s Jiangnan Shipyard and at Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding.

 

Evergreen has said that the entire order value is estimated to be between US$1.4 billion and US$ 1.6 billion and is part of the Taiwanese firm's fleet optimisation.
