CARGO VESSEL ARRIVALS IN SINGAPORE DROP 44% IN MAY

Vessel arrivals in Singapore, considered the world's top transhipment hub, declined by 43.7% year-on-year in May as the impact of the coronavirus persisted.

 

Data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) showed vessel arrivals in Singapore declining to 6,582 last month as cargo throughput during the period also dropped by 20.4% compared to May 2019 levels.

Container throughput in Singapore also decreased by 10.6% year-on-year to 2.81 million tonnes.

 

Singapore's bunker fuel sales volumes in May declined to 3.92 million tonnes, down 2% from the same period in 2019 and 5% lower than April, according to the MPA data.
