PORT OF NY/NJ CARGO UP 4.9% IN H1 AMID TRADE UNCERTAINTY
July 29, 2025

The Port of New York and New Jersey (Port of NY/NJ) recorded continued cargo volume growth in the first half of 2025, handling an estimated 4.48 million (twenty-foot equivalent units) TEUs through June.

The uptick reflects sustained demand and the port's resilience amid shifting supply chain dynamics.

Port of NY/NJ said the 4,417,282 TEUs it handled during the first six months of the year were 4.9% higher than the same period of 2024 and a jump of 20.9% over pre-pandemic 2019.

"The Port of New York and New Jersey continued to see strong growth over the first half of the year despite broad global uncertainty across the supply chain," the port said in a statement.

The port noted that it finished both the month of June and the full first half of the year as the second-busiest in the country for loaded containers, handling 2,945,962 loaded TEUs.

"Cargo volume at the Port of New York and New Jersey grew 4.9% over the first half of 2024, with the seaport ranking as the nation's second-busiest for loaded containers both for June 2025 and for the full first six months of 2025," Port of NY/NJ added.

The port handled 774,698 TEUs in May, up 20% from pre-pandemic May 2019.

In April 2025, the Port of NY/NJ said it handled 751,194 TEUs of cargo.
