AIR FORWARDERS ASSOCIATION WARNS U.S. SHUTDOWN COULD DISRUPT AIR CARGO FLOWS

The Airforwarders Association (AfA) has raised serious concerns about how the federal government shutdown could disrupt the U.S. air cargo system and strain supply chain operations.

With air traffic control operations under pressure and federal aviation staff affected, the organization — which represents indirect air carriers, cargo airlines and affiliated businesses — said there is a "real risk of delays, disruptions, and added costs across the supply chain."

"The Airforwarders Association is deeply concerned about the impact of the Federal Government shutdown on the nation's air cargo system," AfA said in a statement.

"Freight forwarders depend on safe, predictable, and fully resourced aviation infrastructure to keep goods moving for businesses and consumers alike," it added.

The association noted that it will continue to monitor developments closely and keep members informed.

"We urge policymakers to resolve this impasse quickly. The safe and efficient flow of air cargo is not optional — it underpins the economy and supports communities across the United States and around the world," AfA said.

US federal gov't shutdown

The U.S. federal government entered a shutdown Wednesday with no clear resolution in sight, as partisan gridlock persists.

Around 750,000 federal workers face furloughs or layoffs, and agencies like the Department of Transportation (DOT), including its sub-agencies such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), is expected to experience significant disruptions.

Regulatory reviews, safety inspections, and permitting processes could be delayed, affecting air cargo operations, infrastructure projects, and supply chain oversight.
