Qatar Airways Cargo has launched a Ramp Digitalisation Programme aimed at creating a fully paperless and more transparent ramp environment. The initiative marks a step toward modernising the carrier's ground-handling processes and improving safety and efficiency across its global operations.
At the centre of the programme is Ramp Offload and Load Supervision (ROLS), a digital tool that replaces paper‑based loading instruction reports with a fully electronic workflow.
The system supports ULD verification, ensures full reconciliation, and sends real‑time data to Load Control. By using ROLS, ramp agents can carry out loading and offloading tasks with greater accuracy, less paperwork and faster turnaround times, improving the overall handling of freighter operations.
"As the world's leading air cargo carrier, we believe that digital transformation is not just a strategic priority - it is a core mindset guiding how we lead innovation in the Cargo industry," said Mark Drusch, chief officer cargo.
"The Ramp Digitalisation Programme is a key step in supporting Qatar Airways’ broader vision of digitising every touchpoint of our operations and is a major step toward our vision of a fully connected, paperless cargo experience."
Key elements of the Ramp Digitalisation Programme include replacing paper‑based loading instruction reports with a digital tool, providing real‑time loading confirmations and status updates, and enabling full ULD reconciliation. The system also supports SLA monitoring, QR‑code scanning, and tail‑tipping prevention, while giving teams greater visibility over ramp activities.
ROLS lays the foundation for future innovations, such as QR-coded ULDs and aircraft position scanning using handheld devices, and is part of a number of Qatar Airways Cargo's broader Digital Cargo Vision initiatives, including enhancements in e-Bookings, paperless shipments, and automated warehouse solutions.
"Our goal is simple: we are committed to leveraging technology to enhance customer satisfaction, safety, and operational precision, delivering higher reliability, speed, and visibility, making every step of your cargo journey smoother, faster, and more secure," Drusch added.
