The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) has begun the search for its next director general as Glyn Hughes announces he will step down from the role after five years leading the organization.
Hughes, who joined TIACA in February 2021 following a long career in air cargo that included serving as IATA's Global Head of Cargo, has worked closely with the Board to advance TIACA's vision for a safe, profitable and unified air cargo industry. His priorities have included safety, security, digitalization, innovation and supporting the next generation of industry leaders through extensive outreach and educational initiatives.
"It's now been 5 years since I've been director-general of TIACA which has been an amazing 5 years," Hughes told reporters at its annual TIACA Media Day briefing. "It's flown by tremendously fast, I love working with the Board, I love working with the Team but it’s time for me to go – time to find a replacement for me."
He confirmed that TIACA is formally opening applications for the position.
"As of today, we will be announcing that we have opened up the search for the next TIACA director general," he said. "I don't have a particular date that I'm leaving, so I will support the Board as they commence their search for the next director general."
Hughes emphasized that the process will be open to candidates from across the industry. "We will invite applications from across the industry. People shouldn't exclude themselves — if they’re interested, if they feel like they have a value to add to the association, we will encourage them to submit their nomination."
He added that he will remain in place to ensure continuity. "I will support the Board however long the Board needs to effect a smooth transition and handover. It's really just announcing that the search for the next DG is open."
Hughes confirmed he is retiring after 44 years in the industry rather than moving to another role, capping a decades-long career in global cargo leadership.
