KANWAY LINE MAKES ITS MARK IN LOCAL TRADE SECTOR

Taiwan feedership operator Kanway Line has ordered two 1,900 TEU container ships from CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding.

The newbuilding orders were disclosed by Huangpu Wenchong's parent company, China CSSC Holdings, which disclosed the newbuilding orders in a filing to the Shanghai Stock Exchange during the third week of November.

The newbuilding orders, scheduled for delivery in 2022, are connected to a further deal for two sister ships, and carry a newbuilding price of approximately US$25 million each. The vessels each have a length of 172 metres and a breadth of 27.5 metres, and will be of the Bangkok Max design.

Originally established by Yeh Yu Tai as Fuhai Marine Enterprise, or Fuhai Line, in 1994, the company was re-incorporated as Kanway Line in 2003.

Prior to 2009, Kanway Line operated as a non-vessel owning common carrier, focusing on services between Taiwan, Hong Kong and southern China

In 2009, the company acquired a 1998-built 1,675 TEU container vessel which it christened Kanway Global, which it used for its maiden voyage into ship owning.

Kanway Global is operated by Kanway Line on a service connecting the Taiwanese ports of Kaohsiung, Keelung and Taichung with Hong Kong and Shekou in southern China.

Kanway Galaxy has been chartered out to Indonesian feeder operator Samudera Shipping Line.

Kanway Line also purchases slots from Taiwan Liner operator Yang Ming Marine Transport for its Hong Kong-Haiphong service.
