FRANKFURT AIRPORT SAW CARGO VOLUMES CONTINUE TO EXPAND IN MARCH

Frankfurt Airport said cargo volumes in March continues to achieve strong growth – as its passenger traffic remains low.

Europe's busiest airport in terms of cargo traffic said in March 2021, cargo throughput at FRA continued to rise by 24.6% year-on-year to 208,506 metric tons during March 2021, which was also up 3% compared to March 2019.

"Frankfurt’s robust growth was achieved despite the ongoing shortage of belly capacity normally provided by passenger aircraft," it said.

Aircraft movements at the airport decreased by 40.1% year-on-year to 13,676 takeoffs and landings due to lesser passenger flight operations.

Meanwhile, the airport said its passenger traffic "continued to be severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic." It served 925,277 passengers in the reporting month, 56.4% lower than March 2020 when the onset of the coronavirus crisis already reduced traffic significantly.

In comparison with March 2019 shows an even stronger traffic decrease of 83.5% for the reporting month, Frankfurt Airport said.
