PORT FO NY/NJ IS BUSIEST US PORT IN MARCH
April 29, 2025

The Port of New York and New Jersey (Port of NY/NJ) was the busiest port in the United States for loaded imports and exports in March.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey reported that the gateway handled 516,757 loaded TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) in March.

"The Port of New York and New Jersey was the busiest port in the country as measured by loaded containers in March, handling 516,757 loaded TEUs. This was a 9.7% increase from March 2024," it said.

Overall, the port handled 783,732 TEUs in March.

The Port of New York and New Jersey reported its February cargo volumes as the second-highest on record, with the increase likely due to frontloading activity in anticipation of U.S. tariffs targeting key trading partners, particularly China.

The port handled 464,253 loaded import and export TEUs during the month, a 7% jump over February 2024.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said that due to its performance in February, the port was also the country's second-busiest cargo gateway that month, moving 20% more total TEUs than in February 2019, before the pandemic.
