Qatar Airways resumed flights June 24 after Qatari airspace reopened, following a temporary closure prompted by regional tensions.
"Qatar Airways can confirm the reinstatement of flights following the reopening of airspace in the State of Qatar," the state's flag carrier announced.
Qatar’s airspace was closed on the evening of June 23 following heightened regional tensions sparked by a recent U.S. military operation targeting Iranian nuclear sites. In retaliation, Iranian forces launched missiles at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, prompting authorities to shut down airspace as a precautionary measure.
The closure lasted approximately eight hours, disrupting hundreds of flights, including both cargo and passenger services, as Qatar’s airspace is a vital corridor for east-west freight traffic.
Qatar Airways was forced to divert or cancel dozens of services, including long-haul routes from San Francisco, London, and New York, which were rerouted to cities like Riyadh, Medina, and Dammam.
"We are working tirelessly with government stakeholders and the relevant authorities to restore operations as quickly as possible," the carrier said, adding that the focus is to assist its passengers return home or reach their onward journey safely and smoothly.
"We have also deployed additional ground staff at Hamad International Airport and other key airports to assist affected passengers by minimising disruptions and offering the utmost care and support to all customers," Qatar Airways said.
It added that as operations resume, the airline anticipates "significant delays to our flight schedule."
