Ningbo-Zhoushan Port surpassed 20 million TEUs in container throughput by late June, reaching the milestone 15 days earlier than in 2024 and setting a new half-year record, according to port authorities.
Officials attributed the growth to expanded partnerships with shipping lines and port operators, as well as the rollout of a dual fast logistics model combining Sea-Rail Express and China-Europe Express services. The port also added new routes and optimized slot allocation to meet rising demand.
In a parallel push toward sustainability, Ningbo-Zhoushan recorded more than 100,000 cubic meters of LNG bunkering by the end of May—its highest annual volume to date and a key benchmark in its transition to cleaner marine fuels.
The port also brought Zhejiang province's first integrated wind, solar, and energy storage terminal online at its Meishan Low-Carbon Terminal.
The facility has already generated over 26 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, enough to power 50 quay cranes at a 10 million TEU-class terminal for six months.
As of midyear, the port operates 308 container services, including routes under the Gemini Alliance, and has handled 210 ultra-large container vessels, reinforcing its role as a global maritime hub.
