MAERSK, GEMINI COOPERATION EYE RETURN TO SUEZ CANAL, BUT NOT YET
November 26, 2025

Maersk is looking to eventually resume transits through the Red Sea amid stabilizing security conditions in the Red Sea.

The ocean carrier issued a customer advisory related to East-West Suez transits and regarding the situation unfolding around the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab Strait and Suez Canal.

"The Trans Suez route is the fastest, most sustainable and most efficient way for us to serve you with transport between Asia and Europe," Maersk said.

"As efforts to stabilise the Red Sea continue to gain momentum, we are closely monitoring developments and explore opportunities for a safe and sustainable return to East-West Suez transits," it added.

Meanwhile, Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd said they have not set a timeline for resuming Gemini Cooperation services through the canal.

"At the launch of the Gemini Cooperation in February 2025, A.P. Moller - Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd introduced a Cape of Good Hope network due to the on-going disruptions in the Red Sea. Gemini's ambition has always been to return to a Suez-based East-West network once security conditions in the region permit," the partners said in a joint statement.

"However, as the safety of crew, vessels and cargo remains our top priority, we currently have no specific timing to change the Gemini East-West network to sailing through the Red Sea," Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd said. "We will keep customers updated on the Gemini network should any changes occur."

Other Maersk East-West services

"For other Maersk East-West services outside the Gemini scope, we will continue evaluating the situation and intend to resume Trans Suez transits when conditions permit and only once assessed to be safe and sustainable," Maersk said.

"To the extent possible, we aim to ensure consistency and the ability to plan ahead for you and our other customers. When conditions allow and we are ready to change services to the preferred route through the Suez Canal, we will inform you and aim to do so in a way that ensures predictability and stability," the advisory said.
