GERMAN GOV'T SELLS REMAINING DEUTSCHE LUFTHANSA AG STAKE
September 23, 2022

The German government has completed the sale of its remaining shares in Deutsche Lufthansa AG.

Germany originally acquired a 20% stake in the carrier for €306 million in the summer of 2020 and last held around 6.2% of the company's share capital.

"Germany's Economic Stabilisation Fund (WSF) completed (September 14, 2022) the sale of its remaining shares in Deutsche Lufthansa AG to various investors via an accelerated book building process, as reported by Lufthansa," the statement said.

It added that following the sale of its remaining shares, WSF no longer holds any equity stake in Deutsche Lufthansa AG, "ending all remaining conditions".

"Lufthansa is once again fully in private hands," said Carsten Spohr,  Deutsche Lufthansa AG CEO, adding that the stabilisation was "successful" and "is also paying off financially for the German government".

The carrier earlier repaid all loans and deposits it received from the German government in November 2021, while the state previously confirmed its holding would be sold by October 2023 at the latest, according to a report by the Centre for Aviation (CAPA).
