GEORGIA PORTS TO OPEN NEW SAVANNAH TRANSLOAD FACILITY
April 26, 2023
Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) has announced the new Savannah Transload Facility as part of more than US$1.8 billion in further investments to boost cargo flow.

The new Transload Facility is currently under construction a mile away from Garden City Terminal.

"If we are going to create a more robust, fluid supply chain, both size and service offerings need to be ramped up together," GPA said in a statement, announcing the new Savannah Transload Facility.

It said that this 300,000-square-foot transload warehouse will open in July 2023 and will be operated by distribution solutions company, NFI Industries.

Initially, the new facility will be able to handle more than 400 containers a day, totalling more than 150,000 containers a year.

"Cargo moving through the Savannah Transload Facility will start its inland trek to stores and distribution centres faster, saving customers time," GPA said.

"With this kind of investment, we are putting capacity challenges in the rearview for our customers and partners," it added.

Ports in the US East and Gulf Coasts have seen increased volume over the past year as more and more shippers opt out of ports in the West Coast due to persisting uncertainties surrounding earlier issues of congestion — and current contract labour negotiations at times, impacting operations.
