FRANKFURT AIRPORT’S CARGO VOLUME REBOUNDS IN JULY
August 12, 2025

Cargo volumes at Frankfurt Airport rebounded in July, reaching 179,055 metric tonnes—a 3.7% year-on-year increase and the second-highest monthly total so far in 2025.

The uptick recorded at Europe's busiest cargo hub follows a sluggish first half of the year and reflects renewed demand across both intercontinental and regional routes.

The rise in freight activity coincided with a 5.3% increase in aircraft movements, totaling 42,657 takeoffs and landings, and a 2.3% gain in maximum takeoff weights, totaling around 2.6 million metric tons.

Airport officials attribute the growth to improved slot availability, expanded cargo handling capacity, and steady long-haul demand, particularly to East Africa and Asia.

July's cargo volume at Frankfurt Airport was also up from the 174,262 metric tons recorded in June, and the 178,977 metric tons of airfreight and airmail volumes reported in May.

This is also better than the 169,563 metric tons recorded in April, the 152,069 metric tonnes in February, and the 148,321 metric tonnes recorded by the airport in January.

July's cargo volume was surpassed only by March’s peak of 184,679 metric tonnes.
