Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) saw increased cargo volumes in November, mainly driven by more freight to and from Europe, the Chinese Mainland and India, although North American traffic continued to decline due to tariffs.

HKIA, the world's busiest air cargo hub, said cargo throughput grew to 486,000 tonnes, up 5.9% compared to November 2024.

Flight movements during the period reached 33,495 flight movements, also representing year-on-year growth of 7.7%.

Over the first 11 months of 2025, HKIA handled 4.61 million tonnes of cargo, up 2.7% year-on-year, while flight movements rose by 8.8% to 358,825 compared to the same period in 2024.

"On the cargo front, export traffic remained the primary contributor of growth," HKIA said in a statement.

"Overall cargo to and from Europe, the Chinese Mainland and India recorded significant increases, while traffic to and from North America continued to decline due to US tariffs," it added.

On a 12-month rolling basis, cargo throughput grew by 3.0 % to 5.06 million tonnes year-on-year, and flight movements increased by 9.1% to 392,350.

Cissy Chan, executive director, commercial of AAHK, said, the airport will continue leveraging the latest smart technologies to enhance efficiency of air cargo operations.

"As digitalisation is accelerating developments in the air cargo industry, we will continue to collaborate with our business partners to further sharpen our competitiveness through innovations and reinforce HKIA's role as a preferred global air cargo hub," she said.
